Next week Red Hat Summit 2020 will be held, not in San Francisco as we were hoping, but as a virtual event.  While this unfortunately won't give us the possibility to meet in person, a lot of the keynotes and breakout sessions will be held online.

bpmNEXT 2019 and Red Hat Summit 2019

In the next few months, I will have the opportunity to present at both bpmNEXT and Red Hat Summit.

Next week (April 15 - 17), bpmNEXT is taking place again in Santa Barbara, where lots of vendors in the BPM space (or whatever you prefer calling it nowadays - business automation, workflow, orchestration) are coming to showcase and discuss some of their latest achievements.  Check out the conference agenda for the full schedule.  I will be presenting on Wednesday on:

Automating Human-Centric Processes with Machine Learning

Many business processes involve human actors to perform some of the steps that are required to achieve the business goal.  In this context, human actors are typically expensive, can cause unwanted delay or become a bottleneck.  Automating some of these tasks can have a tremendous return on investment, and Machine Learning brings the missing bits to seamlessly automate work initially assigned to humans as soon as there is enough confidence in the expected outputs.  By integrating Machine Learning into our Red Hat Business Automation portfolio, customers can gradually start using Machine Learning to assist or gradually even replace the human actor(s) in a very simple manner, without even having to make any changes to the process definitions in their organisation.

Last year, the recordings were available almost immediately, so that should give everyone an opportunity to take advantage of the great presentations that are typically shown there.  I will also blog my impressions during the event as last years.

 

I will also attend Red Hat Summit this year, which is taking place in Boston on May 7-9.  I have a minitheater session where I will be talking about all the work we have been doing for our next generation architecture for cloud-native business automation.  We got a lot of exciting things we've been working on, so I'm really excited we'll be able to share this information with everyone soon.

Automating business operations in a hybrid cloud world

Business automation helps you automate the many processes and decisions in your applications. In the context of a hybrid cloud, we have been working on our next generation architecture to support process automation and decision management in a true cloud-native manner, taking full advantage of the cloud infrastructure and many of the recent technical advances in that context.  We will demonstrate how business automation simplifies building your own domain-specific applications, leveraging extremely small and efficient execution yet still taking advantage of a lot of the capabilities business automation could offer you as well (from managing human interaction, auditing to monitoring and admin operations).

BBVA is a Red Hat Innovation Award 2018 winner !

Today, BBVA was announced as one of the Red Hat Innovation Award 2018 winners !

BBVA is a customer-centric, global financial services group based in Spain. BBVA chose to make Red Hat technology a key piece of its new cloud platform.  BBVA built its platform using several solutions, including Red Hat OpenStack Platform, Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform and Red Hat JBoss BPM Suite.

Migrating to a container-based Cloud BPMS platform at BBVA

Red Hat Summit in San Francisco 2018 (May 8th - 10th)

This year, Red Hat summit is again in San Francisco, and I'm excited to be able to attend again.  We're kicking off today, but I personally have a presentation on Thursday afternoon (co-speaking with a customer on our BPM cloud strategy), and a jBPM Birds of Feather session on Wednesday with Maciej (where anyone can just walk in to come and talk or ask questions), but more about that later.

We're kicking off with the keynotes.  If you're interested, you can watch the keynotes live at https://www.redhat.com/en/summit/2018 (or in replay later). This first keynote already includes a live demo (by Burr Sutter and team) showing a true hybrid cloud (combining private and public cloud).

And an awesome extra: this year Business Optimizer (Optaplanner) is used for scheduling all the different sessions, and got a honorable mention by Jim Whitehurst during his keynote.

Process-driven applications on Red Hat Summit 2016

Next week (June 27 - July 1st 2016), Red Hat Summit and DevNation are taking place again, in San Francisco.  As usual, it's a huge event with a ton of interesting talks.  Learn the latest and greatest from all different products Red Hat offers (cloud, data, automation, integration, you name it), with something for everyone (admins, architects, managers, etc.).

I'll be doing a session on Tuesday June 28, 3:30 - 4.30pm, on Process-driven applications: let BPM do some of your work.  It will be a (quick) overview of what we've been building out over the last few years with jBPM (and Red Hat JBoss BPM Suite as the product offering) and how you can use it to build your applications.  But we give you the option to choose which building blocks you find valuable, and keep trying to add more and more value (for example in the context of case management or rapid application development).

Red Hat Summit Middleware Keynote and Demo

This year, JBoss BPM Suite 6 / jBPM6 was an important part of the middleware keynote once again !

 

Mark Little explained why the release of the JBoss BPM Suite 6 is an important step forward.

And later it was used as part of the keynote demo to drive requests (coming in from twitter), all running on openshift, set up on a bunch of laptops.

Come meet us at Red Hat Summit in SFO

This week, Red Hat Summit is taking place in San Francisco, and a lot of us (engineer, product management, solution architects, etc.) will be there at the Moscone Conference Center.  If you are attending Summit or DevNation (the developer-oriented conference co-located with Summit), feel free to come and see Mark Proctor's presentations on Drools / JBoss BRMS and/or my presentation on jBPM / JBoss BPM Suite.

There will be plenty of opportunities to meet us as well, like for example the DevNation hacknight on Wednesday, but should you want to meet up but can't find us, try reaching out to us on twitter, @markproctor or @KrisVerlaenen.

DevNation and Red Hat Summit (April 13-17, San Francisco)

This year, Red Hat is organizing DevNation for the first time (April 13-17, San Francisco), a new open source, polyglot conference for application developers and maintainers.  It combines for example the old JUDCon and CamelOne conferences, but offers top notch keynotes, sessions, labs, hackfests, and panels geared for those who build (with) open source.  It is _the_ place for a developer to get excellent technical information from the experts directly, and/or hang out with pizza and beer !

Co-located is Red Hat Summit (April 14-17, San Francisco), meant for anyone looking to exponentially increase their understanding of open source technology and identify powerful solutions for their business needs (although typically at a slightly higher level compared to DevNation). From community enthusiasts and system administrators to enterprise architects and CxOs, there are sessions and tracks for each level of interest and need.

This year, I'll be doing a "deep dive into jBPM6" presentation (available for both DevNation and Red Hat Summit attendees), giving a quick overview of the jBPM 6.0 features, but also sharing a lot of technical information on some of the most important new features, like the new jBPM execution server with new remote APIs.  This version is also supported as part of the JBoss BPM Suite 6.0 release.

But this is just one tiny part of the huge amount of interesting keynotes, presentations, workshops, etc. you'll be able to attend.  Looking forward to speaking to some of you, or maybe even touching some code during the hackfest (bring your laptop and we'll get you started)!

Deep dive into jBPM6

Businesses must clearly define their business processes, and quickly respond to new challenges. To do so, business analysts, developers, and end users need the tools to create, understand, analyze, and execute business processes.

In this session, Kris Verlaenen will demonstrate the capabilities of jBPM 6 and dive deeper into some of its core capabilities. You’ll learn how to:

• Model business processes interacting with remote services.
• Combine business processes with data, forms, and business rules.
• Build and deploy business processes using Git and Maven.
• Interact remotely with the jBPM execution server (REST/Java).

Drools & jBPM Walk in center @ Red Hat Summit (free and open for everyone)

There's a FREE opportunity if you are in the Boston area next week on Thursday.  A lot of us will be there for JUDCon and Red Hat Summit and we want to give you the opportunity to come and ask questions.

We have a dedicated room for community members to come and chat. The room should be open to all, not just those with Summit passes, although you'll need to tell security where you are going.  So whether you're already coming to Summit, or in the vicinity and want to join us, don't hesitate.

Preparing for JUDCon + Red Hat Summit in Boston

A yearly visit to Boston has become a tradition it seems, I'll be attending the JUDCon Boston 2013 and the Red Hat Summit 2013 events next week !

JUDCon is the conference by and for developers, and it's an ideal place to get an overview of what's to come in the various projects, have a chat with the core developers or just grab some beers and have some fun ;)

I'll be presenting "What's new in jBPM6" on Tuesday ...

Business Process Management (BPM) is changing, and so is the jBPM project! It's no longer a tool used by developers to implement some low-level business logic, but it has evolved to a service offered to business analysts, developers and even end users to model, manage and monitor their business processes.
jBPM6 has a lot improvements in this area, and in this session we would like to take you through the most important ones. We will demonstrate the new web-based user interface, but also dive deeper into some technical improvements (like for example how we've simplified session and task service management, how to build your processes and how to scale your application).

Red Hat Summit is the yearly Red Hat conference, to showcase the latest and greatest in cloud computing, platform, virtualization, middleware, storage, and systems management technologies.  There's a huge amount of sessions, in a very large spectrum of topics.

And to be able to effectively interface with the system, business users need convenient tools. JBoss jBPM 6, a JBoss Community project, is set in that direction, built with sophisticated tools to empower business users.
In this session, Kris Verlaenen and Pedro Zapata Fernandez will discuss the state of these tools in JBoss jBPM and discuss the Polymita tools that are now part of jBPM 6. They will also demonstrate the:

• New dashboard builder used to create rich KPI reports and graphs
• Redesigned task management and process monitoring interface
